back to challenges adventure

I've been much busier than expected lately and I knew it had been some time since I'd played along at any challenges, but more than a month?  I didn't even notice.  I did notice a bit of a paradox in my pair of cards today.

My CAS butterfly card for Watercooler Wednesday was inspired by the colors of Global Design Project's CASE the designer, Steffi Helmschrott's, card:
stamp sets - Watercolor Wishes, Papillon Potpourri, Botanical Blooms, Touches of Texture; ink - Sahara Sand, Tip Top Taupe, Pear Pizzazz, Versamark; Stampin' Emboss powder - gold card stock - Whisper White thick; other tools - Big Shot with Botanical Builder framelits, heat gun, embossing buddy, masking tape, Post-It® notes

Four stamp sets, four ink pads and multiple tools for a one-layer, two-color clean and simple design that took more than 30 minutes to complete after thinking for two days.  On the other hand, only one stamp set and two ink pads for Christmas in July at Stamp Ink Paper using Stephanie's sketch from Jingle Belles, which came together in about 15 minutes as soon as I decided on the designer series paper:
stamp set - Time of Year (hostess); ink - Real Red, Garden Green; Stampin' Write markers - Real Red, Garden Green; card stock - Garden Green, Very Vanilla, Real Red; paper - This Christmas specialty designer series, Delicate White Doilies; embossing folder - Holly; punches - 3/4" circle, 1" circle

No wonder I struggle with Clean and Simple!

Simply beautiful, Kathe. Yes, clean and simple is not necessarily a quick and easy technique. I find it takes more planning and, frequently, more work. But I also find that I take a lot of pride in what I can accomplish sticking to that clean and simple technique. Your card is a perfect example of clean and simple. The variety of colours you've achieved by stamping off and the layering of stamped shapes really adds so much interest to the card. The gold embossed butterfly---stunning! Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.

hehehe, i'm glad i'm not the only one for whom CAS means waaaaaaaaay more work, lol! (in this case it was WELL WORTH the effort tho... yowza!) of course i'm bound to say the xmas card you made for JINGLE BELLES using stephanie's sketch is my favorite in this post, tho, right?! ;) (& truly it is wonderful!) ♥

Love them both, but you know I'm partial to the awesome version of my sketch design ... love the traditional holiday colors ... so very glad you're celebrating SKETCH-mas with us at Jingle Belles.

Thanks for joining in the challenge over at the Watercooler Kathe. What a lovely card. I really like the strip of colourful botanical leaves along the bottom of the card and your choice of butterfly from Papilion Potpouri. Awesome.

LOL'd at your description of doing a CAS card, Kathe! Been there, done that, still do that every time. Love your CAS butterfly and they way it is rising out of the leaves! Thanks for joining in at the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge.

Kathe, I'm so glad to read that I'm not the only one who thinks that CAS should also mean quick & easy! (but I guess that's why the acronym isn't QAE!) LOL I love how you created the border with the Botanical leaves - great job! Glad that you joined us at the Watercooler Wednesday challenge. ~Deborah
