accidental CASE adventure

I didn't follow my usual process for this card of starting with a challenge or a card I wanted to CASE*.  I started by wanting to use the new hostess set Mixed Medley (which Stampin' Up!® convention 2012 attendees received FREE!) on something clean and simple.  I decided on a basic layout of three scallop circles vertically aligned down the center of a tall card - sort of like a stoplight.  Then I needed three colors, so I looked over my challenge grid and found this delicious summery confection at The Play Date Cafe:
I thought it was perfect, since I'm not ready to give up summer for an autumn color palette yet.  I knew my basic layout needed a little embellishment, and while I worked that out, I ended up changing the orientation I had envisioned:
stamp set - Mixed Medley (hostess); ink - Pretty In Pink, Pumpkin Pie So Saffron; card stock - Naturals White, Pretty In Pink, Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron; punches - 3/4" circle, 1/1/4" scallop; Big Shot with Delicate Designs and Perfect Polka Dots Textured Embossing Folders™; Stampin' Dimensionals
I made it on a Naturals White base, but decided that was a little too plain, so I cut the front down and mounted it on a Pretty In Pink base instead.   Had I originally planned it as a white layer, I probably would have used Whisper White for the stronger contrast.  I took the photo and went on to other projects.  The next evening I was browsing Pinterest and saw this card!  I didn't click the link at the time, so I thought it was a new card and I was so sure I would see it at The Play Date Cafe, that I searched there first this evening.  Dayanna actually posted hers in July, so mine looks much like a CASE, although it's not.  Another thing I would have done differently had I seen Dayanna's card first would have been to use the Delicate Designs folder she used instead of the one I used.  This card may be on the short list of "try this again".
