ribbon adventure

Saturday morning, I was strolling through the Strawberry Fest downtown admiring the hand-crafted items.  I stopped at the high school Cheer Team fundraiser table where a lovely young lady asked if I would be interested in a ribbon hair bow.  My first statement was "I don't have enough hair for bows" but when she disagreed, I admitted that truly, I'm just not really interested in frilly, girly things, but I did make a donation in exchange for a raffle ticket.

That's the problem with ribbon, for me - it just seems frilly and girly, which I'm not.  I have some lovely Stampin' Up!® ribbons, many of which are not really frilly or girly, but I don't use them often.  It's one of the things that challenge me, so I was more than doubly challenged when Leslie set the Shopping Our Stash challenge as Double the Ribbon.  Not knowing when to leave well enough alone, I incorporated my own challenge to use the embossed stripes card base that's been in my stash since last year, which really called out to be a masculine card, and rolled the whole thing up into Stamping 411's sketch #260:
stamp set - Priority Mail (hostess); ink - Night of Navy, Cajun Craze, Soft Suede; Stampin' Around wheel - Candle Crazy; card stock - Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Soft Suede, Cajun Craze; designer series paper - First Edition; punch - Curly Label; Big Shot with Stripes embossing folder and Tasteful Trim Bigz XL; ribbon - 3/8" Denim Jean, 1/2" Crumb Cake Seam Binding; Stampin' Dimensionals

I used the off-cut from the scallop on Tasteful Trim because I thought it would "echo" the Curly Label punch.  Now that I'm looking at the photo instead of the card, I wonder if using the Top Note to cut the designer series paper would have been a good choice, as well. It may have just been too much, though...

It's GREAT!! LOVE the way you used the ribbon on here and the scallop cut out is perfect too! I'm just the opposite....I want to put ribbon on everything I create and it's hard not to sometime! LOL! I think you used this ribbon fabulously!

I know exactly what you mean about ribbon Kathy! I use mine on gift wrapping or on feminine cards mostly but it's fun working out new ways to use it. I like the way you've used seam binding here to mount the curly label.
