adventures with CASEing

In school we were taught never to copy another student's work, remember?  Then we learned to write research papers, and we had to copy someone's work, since we didn't know much about what we were researching.  But, we we were supposed to use our own words.  That's sort of what CASEing is - Copy And Share Everything (or Copy And Selectively Edit - I've seen some other variations, too).  Instead of using our own words, we use our own creative ideas.

I saw a card at Stampin' Connection last week that looked a lot like this:
stamp sets - Papillon Potpourri, Loving Thoughts; ink - Lucky Limeade; card stock - Basic Black, Lucky Limeade, Naturals White; punch - Elegant Butterfly; Big Shot with Top Note die and Designer Frames folder, Basic Rhinestones
The Stampin' Connection Showcase is exclusive for Stampin' Up!® demonstrators, so I can't link you there.  Hers was done in soft neutrals, used a different sentiment, and had a pearl embellishment where I have three rhinestones.  I was going to copy hers more closely; I was thinking of Brushed Gold or Brushed Silver for the butterfly and staying with her softer color palette.  Then I remembered the Black & White with a splash of Lime challenge at The Play Date Cafe and I had a "eureka" moment.  I like it!

On the next card, I reversed the original card colors.  Not because of any flash of inspiration, only because when I embossed the poinsettias on the white card stock, I had the unfortunate idea that the centers could be done with Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details.  I didn't like it, so I tried it the other way, and added a layer of silver:
stamp sets - Petite Pairs, Scentsational Season, Platinum Shimmer Paint, card stock - Brushed Silver, Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White; Big Shot with Petals-A-Plenty embossing folder; Whisper White 5/8" organza ribbon
Of course, I saw Ange's card on Pinterest, where I also saw a tip to use the stylus for dotting the paint onto the flower centers.  I stamped the star and greeting (by using a sponge dauber to get the paint neatly on my stamps) so that I could make "Bingo" (vertical center row) at Jingle Belles.  Then I realized that I have "double Bingo" using the bottom horizontal row!  I'm sort of tempted to see if it's possible to get a "full card Bingo"...

Another Pinterest CASE adventure I tried this week resulted in this:

stamp sets - Autumn Days (retired), More Merry Messages; ink - Early Espresso; Stampin' Write markers - Early Espresso, Garden Green; - card stock - Early Espresso Core'dinations, Garden Green, Very Vanilla; Big Shot with Woodgrain textured impressions folder, Stampin' Sanding System, Stampin' Dimensionals
I made some minor selective edits, since Rhonda used the new Watercolor Winter stamp set, which I (foolishly?) haven't purchased, and I replaced her birthday sentiment with a Christmas sentiment.  I didn't make this card for any challenges (other than my own personal challenge to make as many Christmas cards as I can before December); I just made it because I loved it.  And there are so many other ideas that I love on Pinterest.  It can be hard to find the balance between finding the inspiration and putting it into action.

Wow, you have 3 beauties here Kathe! The pop of the green butterfly is definitely worth an a-ha moment! And that embossed tree with the white centers and pretty star is so elegant. I love it in red! And I love the rustic simplicity of the last card! Quite a trio!
