adventure in humility

A friend of mine was chatting with me earlier this week about card making and scrapbooking.  She wondered why I don't really scrapbook, knowing that I enjoy photography.  I told her it's mostly the instant gratification; I can complete a card in 30 minutes and it won't be sitting there waiting for me to find time to work on it again.  A scrapbook would take so much longer...

A neighbor stopped by my office this morning to thank me for the hand-made card, he thought it must have taken a lot of time.  I told him that once I've decided on a design and cut the card stock to size, it's usually only about 10 minutes to stamp it and put it together...

This evening I thought I'd just make one card, an attempt at a somewhat cleaner card for the Music theme at Less is More.  I'd worked out most of the idea in my head based on the sketch at Create with Connie and Mary, and I definitely wanted to link up at their site so I'd have another chance to be the lucky winner of a FREE SUBSCRIPTION to Create with Connie and Mary Occasions Edition 2012.   At this point, it should have been simply a matter of choosing the colors and textures, stamping and assembling - an hour, tops - and I'd have time to get started on an idea that's been bouncing around in my head for one more hand-made gift.  It took me four hours to make those decisions and put this together:
stamp set - Thank You Kindly; Stampin' Around wheel - Music Notes; ink - Wisteria Wonder, Concord Crush; card stock - Concord Crush, Wisteria Wonder, Silver Glimmer; Big Shot with Northern Flurry embossing folder and Snowflakes set #2 sizzlits; Stampin' Dimensionals
As you can see, at some point I decided to incorporate the "soft as a snowflake" theme from Shopping Our Stash, as well.  That would be because I could not choose another texture that I felt worked with music.  For that matter, I don't know why I felt that snow worked with music, but tonight, I'm saying it does.

Maybe it was subconscious - Sizzix, and therefore Stampin' Up®, are discontinuing the Sizzlits Snowflakes #2 set - and I thought I should tell you that if you love snowflakes as much as I do, you'll want to order your set before they're gone!

That has happened to me more times than I wish to count. I will have absolutely everything worked out in my head and then hours later FINALLY have a card I like! Your beautiful purple musical snowflake card is just beautiful! Thanks for playing along this week in the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge!

No worries, Kathe, the snowflake fits in the Shopping Our Stash theme perfectly. The purple is wonderful :) You are such a loyal SOS participant!

I envy your ability to make a card in 10-30 minutes. It usually takes me AT LEAST an hour to come up with papers, design, and assembly. As for scrapbooking...well, it takes me like 17 hours per LO...yeah, cards are much more instant gratification :)

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Love the purples for your snowflake card. And, isn't it funny how something already in our head can take so long to get down on paper? Thanks for playing along with the sketch challenge this week on Create with Connie and Mary!

Haha know what you mean! Some cards just happen, don't they, and others seem to take a lot of time and a lot of mess?! I really like the colour scheme of this card and the embossing is gorgeous. Happy Christmas!
